No pain here, sugar. We ain't that kind of house.

[There's a little chuckle, like it reminds him of a distant joke.]

It's funny when you say 'sugar'.

[infusions]

[ She leans over the bar, careful not to put her elbows on it and toys with the end of the little red straw stuck into the fizzy drink she's made for him. ]

You calling me 'funny', mister?

[His hands cup around the glass to feel the chill on his palms while he shifts in his seat, smile giddy and just a little bit guilty.]

Well... yeah. But it's not like being funny is bad.

[infusions]

[ The tip of her finger finds the end of his nose, touching it lightly once in a sign of easy, understated affection. Cherry's a tough girl with no hard edges, having filed them all down when she first came to work for Tabitha. It'd been her, the Liquorist, who'd suggested she make Milen in the first place and there isn't a day or even a moment that Cherry regrets it, not a one. ]

Could be calling me 'funny looking' and that's plenty bad. [ A beat and then she smiles at him, dazzlingly. ] But I know that you're not.

[He crinkles his nose at her gesture, scratches it lightly and shakes his hair off his face, giggling at the thought of calling her 'funny looking'. Cherry's smile alone confirms why such it'd just be silly.]

No, of course I'm not!

[infusions]

[ Satisfied with his answer she leans back, canting her hips in one direction and her head in another. Cherry nods at his drink (not a drop of alcohol in it) which continues to fizz noisily at his chin. ]

Drink up, babyboy, we got a long night. 'Less you got somewhere better to be.

[He presses his lips and shakes his head, finally taking the straw up to his lips after he adds in an answer:] Nope.

[Drink up, babyboy.]

Is anything special happening tonight?

[infusions]

[ She smiles more brightly again, even goes so far as to bat her eyelashes. Cherry never seems insincere, but most of the time it's posturing and window dressing. Not for Milen, though. ]

Why, every night's a special night here. But we got a whole lot of high rollers breezin' into town tonight and everybody knows this is the place to be.

Oh, cool. [He starts to shake his leg idly, smiling up at her after hunching over the counter to drink.] D'you think they'll remember me?

[infusions]

[ She leans forward again to brush some of the hair off of his forehead. On really important days, when the most importan folks are at the bar, Cherry makes the effort to tidy Milen up and look a little respectable. She hasn't decided yet if tonight's one of those nights. ]

With a face like yours, all sugary sweet, I don't see why not. [ Her eyes brighten. ] Why— you hopin' to see someone special?

[Milen presses his lips to hide any giveaways, looking up and to the side in an added effort.]

... No.

[Yes.]

[infusions]

[ Cherry clicks her tongue and waves a finger at him, back and forth a few inches from his face. ]

Now, now. It ain't right to fib to your favorite lady, Milen.
