Doesn't make you popular, does it? Then again, neither does causing the complaint, but still, there's one side of the stick that's better to be on than the other.

[ Before she was queen, she was queen's advisor — a hopelessly innocuous thing, with a smile far too large for her face. Tearing the queen down (or rather, watching as the queen tore herself down once Betina had moved all the pieces into place) had given her the opportunity and excuse to blossom into the bloodflower that smiles at Hollis now. Nobody saw it coming — save Betina, her son, and her lover.

But then again, they all knew way lay inside her, waiting. ]

[ They all knew, yes, and Hollis had known from the beginning. To underestimate someone is the easiest mistake to make, and Hollis has long since weaned himself off of the habit. In this particular case, it had served in his favor.
