[ There are new scars on Klara's face today — healed, but only partially. (To heal them all the way would be a waste.) If she's self-conscious about it she doesn't show it, if only because her posture is already so uncertain it eclipses the possibility of anything new. ]

It does sound nice, doesn't it? [ She tries to hazard a smile but her wounds threaten to reopen and weep and so she stops herself, wincing instead. ]

[Kelly's scars aren't the same as Klara's. They're purely superficial, though the pain he experiences in receiving them is not. Punishment, obedience, torture, and pain is the easiest way to have his body giving up what little hold it might have on the magic inside it.

They keep away from his face, for whatever reason - a pretty toy is a more valuable toy - and he has difficulty looking at Klara. Glancing at her and then away, back again, and perhaps it's not surprising that Malfosse's wells would all stand with such stooped shoulders, head tipped to tilt low and away.]

Nice. [He nods, lapsing into silence for a moment, then thinking he should add something more.] Maybe a bit obsessive, though. Like I said, fucked up. I don't know, it doesn't have much context.

[He'd like to know more, but... you don't ask questions. That one had taken a while to drum into him, but he's learnt it now.]
