Bel, trust me, the last time I thought one of these things was a hypothetical proposition, I wound up having actually run away from the idiot who asked me it.

[ Azazel used to call her Bella, now her clone is called Bel. Shorter because he's less of her than he should be and because, well he's young. ]

You need to learn not to believe they're all just hypothetical propositions.

[ Was he always called Bel? He can't remember, even though he tries — tries so hard that parts of his code starts to unravel and he gives himself a headache while his nose bleeds and bleeds. (Needless to say, he doesn't do that anymore; Lucifer had made him promise and Bel remembers that he loves Lucifer. Even more than he loves Azazel.) ]

I do trust you, [ he says, always such a literal thing. (That's unique, that's strictly v2.0. Bella had never been that way, not even in the slightest.) ] I know they're not all hypothetical, it just—

The proposition seemed silly, otherwise.

[ Azazel worried each time that happened. Bel is all they have left of Bella nowadays, you have to protect him. (They'll get her back eventually, but until then, he's their nephew of sorts. You don't let them take your family.) ]

I know you do, but I don't mean it that way, [ he frowns back. (Bel takes things literally and sometimes Azazel forgets that they're different in that respect.) ] You'd be surprised how silly people can be.

They think doing that is the ultimate sacrifice and that it's the truest form of loyalty. [ A pause. ] It's not, of course.
