catelyn stark | asoiaf
(She was a Tully before she was ever a Stark and she'll never forget her words: Family, Duty, Honor.) ]
It is a thought for those without family. Those who have only themselves and the other person tying them to living. [ But the idea itself is a bit romantic, in its own way, Catelyn supposes. She can understand the sentiment, to a point. ]

she has been a pawn far too long. )
I miss him.

She has been a pawn, but perhaps she can be a pawn that is changed into a queen. ]
We all do. There's not a day that goes by that I, nor any of your siblings do not miss him. [ It has to be worse for Sansa and Arya, they were there. ] No matter what, Sansa, believe me when I say you are not alone in that regard.

she is quiet for a moment, face pressed against the curve of catelyn's shoulder, but she doesn't cry when she once might have. if only I had kept my mouth shut, sansa thought. if only I hadn't wanted to please them so. )
I begged for mercy, but he didn't...and now Arya's gone, and Robb's fighting a war, and everything's wrong. It isn't supposed to be this way.

her hand moves up to stroke sansa's hair in a comforting gesture. it's worrisome that sansa is not crying but perhaps she had already allowed herself to cry enough. catelyn knows she has. if only she had fought harder to keep ned in winterfell is one of the only thoughts that circulates deep in catelyn's brain. ]
You couldn't have known. You believed what anyone would have believed. Joffrey is a cruel boy with an even crueler mother. [ she takes a moment to collect herself. ] You couldn't have known this would happen. You couldn't have known that he would not grant your father mercy.
We'll find Arya, all of us and we'll avenge your father and we'll go home to Winterfell where Bran and Rickon are waiting. I promise you.
[ it's a promise catelyn would die trying to keep. (she knows she might have to.) ]
